Opportunities

Birch Creek Ranch (and Talkeetna Grown) is a real working family farm. We depend on reliable, hard working, and enthusiastic farm workers whether volunteers, interns, or employees. This is a fairly remote, off-grid farm located 15 miles from Talkeetna's village, with 7 miles of rough gravel road. If you are interested in checking out our operation and pitching in for a few days, a few weeks or the whole season you could actively participate in many different aspects of farm work and life including transplanting, tilling, planting, weeding, harvesting, composting, working market tables and many other back-breaking, smelly, undignified, character-building tasks. That's farming.

Want to know a little bit what it could be like? Go to Nick & Paige's account of one couple's volunteer experience - 2 weeks at Birch Creek Ranch in the summer of 2013.

"Getting to know Brian...and Oliver was the best part of our experience thus far and we really enjoyed working on the farm. We both agree that if we could repeat just one thing from our entire Alaska trip, it would be the time spent in Talkeetna."

Minimum suggested stay is 2 weeks with 20 volunteer hours per week, room and board provided, and for longer stays, our best attempts at sharing some of the beauty and adventure in our corner of Alaska.
